Delete your AltScape account

Before you delete

• Want a copy of your data? Download it from Settings first. Once your account is deleted, you can't get it back.
• Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription, so cancel it in the store first. A subscription bought on the web stops renewing when your pairing ends, and the rest of that billing period isn't refunded.

What happens when you delete

Right away

• You're signed out on every device and can't sign in again.
• Your profile is anonymised: your name becomes “Deleted User”, and your username, bio and photo are removed. The photo file itself stays at its public web address until the rest of your data is erased.
• Your pairing ends, and your partner loses access to your shared space.
• Connected calendar and music services, and any assistants you allowed, lose access to your account.

About 30 days later

We permanently erase your account and the rest of your personal data, including the messages and memories you created. Files you uploaded, such as photos, can no longer be viewed or downloaded, but stored copies of them can stay with our storage provider until we remove them.

What we keep, and why

• If the law requires us to preserve an account's data, for example as evidence in a child-safety investigation, we keep it until that duty ends, then erase it.
• Records of moderation decisions stay, but they no longer identify you.
• Our records of how the Services are used lose their link to you, and we delete them 90 days after they were made. If you allowed analytics, our analytics provider, PostHog, keeps its copy for the period set in our account with it.
• Apple, Google and Stripe keep their own records of your purchases, under their own rules.
• We don't keep rolling backups. A one-off copy of our database made before a system update can hold your data until we delete that copy.
